MIDDLETOWN >> Madison Ketchum and Kaleigh Alves scored two goals apiece while Ashlyn Welton added a goal and two assists on Tuesday as the Middletown Mustangs completed a perfect first half of their North Central League I season by blanking the Lower Lake Trojans 8-0 in Middletown.

Middletown is 7-0 in league and 10-1-1 under first-year coach Amy Emerson.

“I”m pretty excited,” Emerson said. “I had some big shoes to fill, but I”ve got a great group of girls. They”re willing to do whatever it takes.”

Middletown had a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game as Caitlin Lemoine scored in the first minute and Rosie Emerson scored in the second minute. It was 6-0 by halftime, at which point the Mustangs made massive substitutions.

“I had a completely different team on the field in the second half,” Emerson said. “I moved players from defense to offense and played all my freshmen. Some players who hadn”t been on the field more than five minutes this season got to play an entire half.”

One of Middletown”s newer players, Courtney Gillies, even recorded an assist.

Danni Rossi also scored for the Mustangs, who begin their quest for a seventh straight league title on Thursday when the second half of league play opens in Willits.
