The Healthy Start Program enthusiastically celebrated their 20th anniversary in September 2014. Since its initiation in 1994, Healthy Start has expanded from one program at Pomo Elementary School to a total of 10 programs in all seven school districts. Some coordinators have been involved with the program since its inception. The celebration included the sharing of 20 years” worth of accomplishments and memories with community partners, school representatives, and current and former Healthy Start staff, along with food and festivities.

Healthy Start Director, Joan Reynolds, shared with those present, “We”ve accomplished more than we ever imagined in the past 20 years. It”s been a truly collaborative effort. We started with one program and now we have ten. Each of you is a vital part of our success.”

Reynolds pointed to the various photos that decorated the meeting room. “Many of you are in these photos which prove you are part of the Healthy Start story,” she said. “Together, we”ve come a long way since 1994 and we”re all excited to see where we go next. Thank you all.”

Healthy Start works with many local partners to provide services such as dental screenings, sealant clinics, Nurturing Parenting classes, basic needs, medical referrals, tutoring for foster and youth, and much more. This program provides comprehensive support so that students come to school ready to learn. The goal of Healthy Start is to offer a large variety of services that support academic success and build support for children and families.
