KELSEYVILLE >> Maybe it won”t turn out the way it did in 2013, but the Kelseyville Knights are once again rolling along in the North Central League I varsity volleyball standings.

They won their fifth straight on Thursday, sweeping past the Lower Lake Trojans 25-17, 25-4, 25-19 at Kelseyville.

Kelseyville (5-1) lost its league opener to St. Helena but has since won five straight. The same thing happened a year ago when the Knights dumped their opener — also to St. Helena — and went on to win their final 13.

Riley Goff led the Knights with 19 assists and eight digs, Abby McQueen added seven kills and McCallister finished with nine aces and seven kills.

Brooke Taliaferro led the Trojans with three kills.

Boys” soccer

Fort Bragg 3, Lower Lake 0

At Fort Bragg, Lower Lake”s offense struggled again but coach Dan Griffin said the effort was there in a league loss to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.

Coming off a 2-0 loss to Middletown, a game in which the Trojans were criticized by their coach for not giving their all, Lower Lake left it all on the field against Fort Bragg, according to Griffin.

“The effort was there, but the offense is still struggling,” Griffin said.

Among the standouts for the Trojans (1-6-1, 3-8-1) were Angel Jauregui and Octavio Perez, according to Griffin.

Willits 2, Middletown 0

At Willits, the Willits Wolverines ended Middletown”s league winning streak at two games with a shutout victory.

Both Willits goals came in the second half.

“We had a couple of opportunities but couldn”t capitalize,” Middletown coach Luis Chairez said.

Middletown is 2-6 in league and 2-8 overall.

Cloverdale 3, Clear Lake 0

At Cloverdale, the Clear Lake Cardinals fell to the Cloverdale Eagles in NCL I action despite playing one of their better games of the season.

“The boys played a very, very tough game,” Clear Lake co-coach Tony Paskaly said. “I was proud of them. They felt like they had won.”

Cardinals keeper Giovanni Sanchez had 15 saves.

Girls” soccer

Cloverdale 2, Clear Lake 0

At Cloverdale, the Cloverdale Eagles (5-3) snapped a three-game league losing streak with a shutout win over the Clear Lake Cardinals (4-3-1, 10-5-2).

Clear Lake played without Ciera Moreno, who sustained a broken leg in a 3-2 win at Fort Bragg on Tuesday. She”s out for the season.

“We had a ton of shots and could not find the back of the net,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said.

Calistoga 3, Upper Lake 1

At Upper Lake, Calistoga had a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the game and went on to beat the Upper Lake Cougars in NCL II action.

“Both teams played real well,” Upper Lake coach Mandy Robbins said.

Sheyla Ayala scored on a penalty kick for Upper Lake in the second half to make it 3-1.
