WILLITS >> North Central League I girls” soccer leader Middletown continued its march through the league with a 4-2 victory over the Willits Wolverines on Thursday afternoon in Willits.

Middletown (8-0 league, 11-1-1 overall) didn”t play its crispest of matches this season, according to coach Amy Emerson.

“It really wasn”t our best game,” she said. “We were off from the start.”

Getting stuck in traffic for an hour on the way to Willits didn”t help.

“It took us probably the first half before we got going,” Emerson added.

Middletown even fell behind early, something that hasn”t happened to the Mustangs since the non-league portion of its schedule.

Willits scored in the 18th minute to go up 1-0. Rosie Emerson tied it with a goal in the 21st minute and Megan Touros scored the first of her two goals later in the half to put Middletown ahead to stay.

Touros and Ashlyn Welton scored in the second half for the Mustangs. Emerson had two assists and Caitlin Lemoine one.

“They were on fire,” Emerson said of the Wolverines. “They really made some good passes.”

Middletown hosts Fort Bragg on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
