If I understand evolutionist Kevin Bracken”s May 30 letter correctly, he is suggesting that, at one time in the distant past, there is the possibility that our moon was originally a small sun that has since burned out. I find this interesting because it just happens that this is what most creationists believe. Specifically, we believe that, before the Noachian flood, conditions were much different from what they are now. For instance: the sun was seven times hotter than it is now and the moon was equal to our present sun. So there was eight times more heat and light being produced before the flood. Also, the smaller sun (today”s moon) never crossed the sky during the day. It was always on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun and was only seen at night. The entire surface of the planet was protected from the intense heat of the two suns by a canopy of water vapor suspended in the atmosphere. This protective covering (today”s ocean) produced a perfect climate. In effect, the Earth was within a giant greenhouse. During the day, the intense heat held the canopy of water vapor in place over the planet”s surface, away from the pull of gravity. At night, when the earth cooled, a ground fog bathed the plant life with dew. Had there not been a smaller sun at night then there would have been flooding rains instead of fog.
According to Bible prophecy, the sun and the moon will be restored to their original intensity on the new Earth as described in Isaiah 30:26.
Whenever there is a discrepancy between science and scripture, we should always rely on scripture. In this case, science tells us that the earth is millions of years old because, according to radiocarbon dating, coal has no radiocarbon present. The real reason that there is no radiocarbon reading is because, prior to the flood, organic matter was shielded from cosmic rays by the “protective cover” mentioned earlier. In other words, the earth is really only about 6,000 years old, which radiocarbon age dating tends to confirm.
