In talking to my acquaintances, reading and watching news accounts, and reading comments about those reports, it seems like we are nearing hysteria concerning our vulnerability to the threat Ebola presents. I can only guess at the effect it is having on Texas and Louisiana residents.

When the disaster begins to unfold on our own soil and it is reported that the president has gone golfing again, for the 200th time during his tenure by those who count these sorts of things, and explained away by his press manager as good for “clearing your head,” it certainly creates the impression of a lack of concern. In my adult life there have been 10 presidents, and through them all I have seen a common factor. When they walk through the White House door they have to strip naked and jump into a pit full of lions, tigers, snakes, and time bombs and fight for their lives. You don”t do that without sweating buckets.

I do not expect him to go to the hospital and help the medical staff. He”s a lawyer, what”s he going to do, serve a subpoena on the virus? But calling every nations” leader and calling for an emergency meeting of the United Nations to unite in a world wide effort to deal with the crisis is the duty of responsible leadership.

Like it or not, we are the world”s policeman. Those that can help should contribute to the effort, and those that need help should be assured of that help being provided. The rest of the world wants the riches that Africa has, from diamonds, minerals, food, oil, to ground up rhino horns and dried tiger penis for eastern “medicine.” Only with leadership do things get done. We can not do it alone. All we need is a leader. Our president certainly gives the impression of a man unconcerned. When impression becomes reality it is time to step aside and make way for a leader.
