CLOVERDALE >> An 8-6 lead midway through the first quarter turned out to be the last highlight for the Lower Lake Trojans during a 40-20 North Central League I varsity football loss to the Cloverdale Eagles on Friday night in Cloverdale.

With a chance to get back even in the league standings and move above the .500 mark for the season, the Trojans instead slipped to 1-3 and 3-4. Cloverdale improved to 3-1 and 5-2, remaining one game behind St. Helena (4-0) in the NCL I race.

Lower Lake quarterback Isazah King rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns and passed for a third score, connecting with Brendan Maninger on a 51-yard strike. King”s touchdown runs were 2 yards in the first quarter and 77 in the second.

The Trojans were penalized 11 times for 167 yards and had two touchdowns called back.

“Frustrating,” Lower Lake coach Justin Gaddy said of all the yellow flags. “Cloverdale had two penalties. There were some things beyond our control tonight, but I”m proud of the kids. They handled it the right way.”

Cloverdale led 26-14 at halftime and 40-14 after three quarters.

“Cloverdale did a great job holding onto the football and using the clock,” Gaddy said. “Their offense and defensive lines did a great job. They won the battle up front.”
