UPDATED:

I have some reality checks on real estate facts that were presented in the Opinion Letter authored by Mr. McLean in last Saturday”s Record-Bee.

Mr. McLean is not an economist or a real estate broker. Nor am I, but I know that one can not draw an accurate economic conclusion regarding the positive or negative impact of cannabis cultivation in any county solely based on the average price of houses in that market.

Nonetheless, let”s look at Mr. McLean”s evaluation of the housing market in surrounding counties. His study failed to include Napa County where the median average 2014 home price is roughly $470,000. In Napa, cannabis cultivation is severely restricted and virtually nonexistent.

Furthermore, In Butte County where, as McLean points out, “there is plenty of cannabis cultivation,” the citizens are voting for a cannabis free economy. On Nov. 4th Butte County is voting on Measure A and Measure B simultaneously. Measure A is a referendum measure similar to Lake County”s Measure N and Measure B is very similar to the marijuana growers ballot measure we now know as Measure O.

No on O is supported by our Sheriff, the Lake County Deputy Sheriff”s Association, Chamber of Commerce, Kelseyville Business Association and several Home Owners Associations.

Vote no on O and allow the economy of Lake County to thrive without the presence, fear and intimidation of marijuana growers in our backyards and communities.

Vote no on O and preserve Measure N and its reasonable regulations on outdoor and especially indoor marijuana grows so that houses in our neighborhoods maintain their value.
