I take my voting seriously, studying the issues and how the candidates address them. I look closely at the personal characteristics and backgrounds of the candidates. I want honest and competent representation.

During the primary election, I attended the Supervisor forum hosted by Lakeconews and the Chamber of Commerce. The forum left an indelible impression on me; it was clear some of the candidates were unprepared for the important office they were seeking. In the primary election voters determined the two candidates that would move on to the November election, Steele and Brosnan. For purposes of the current election, the forum was highly instructive. It”s available on www.youtube.com/watch?v=27PJPKsj4eI&list=UUQc2R0p3jSZgviFPqQfX4sg.

That Jim Steele was the top vote getter in the primary election came as no surprise. His experience, academic background and professional credentials are unmatched. More importantly, he is a public policy professional with the right type of background for today”s most serious problem, our lake and watershed – which I believe is inextricably tied to our economy.

There”s something else about Jim Steele. He cares about people and our communities. Years before deciding to run for Supervisor, he”s been a volunteer, helping people in small and big ways – in neighborhoods from one end of the District to the other, in his own town and, in fact, all around the lake. On search and rescue he”s been out for days at a time, helping to find lost and injured people. While on the Clearlake Oaks Water Board, he guided that agency towards solvency. Recently he stepped up at the request of rate-payers and effectively represented their interests on a proposed rate increase. At community gatherings, he gives in physical ways and/or out of pocket. During the bad storm earlier this year, he went around with his chainsaw, helping wherever needed. The examples are too numerous to mention. In short, he”s always there to lend a helping hand, expecting nothing returned. It”s in his nature.

Jim is mature and confident from his years of responsibility in both the private and public sectors. He cares about people, our communities, our lake, the environment and our economy. He”s got my vote.
