Supporters of Measure N are unhappy with the Lake County Democratic Party.

What could possibly of happened that caused these usually diametrically opposed groups to form an alliance on this issue?

What happened was the Lake County Democratic Party endorsed YES on Measure O for this election, November 4th.

Is it a conspiracy? Is there something wrong with the Democratic Party and process?

I guess if you”re upset and you didn”t get your way, you would say so.

For everyone else, you can be confident that the arguments were heard from both sides, just like every other issue which is considered, for and against Measure O and Measure P. After hearing these arguments, researching, and discussing the issues thoroughly at multiple meetings, the members of the Lake County Democratic Elections Issues Committee voted 8-0 in favor of endorsing YES on Measure O and NO on Measure P.

This position was then given as a recommendation to the Lake County Democratic Central Committee. The Central Committee at a different meeting, with further investigation and debate on the issue, voted 15 in favor and only 1 vote against endorsing YES on Measure O, and NO on Measure P. The Democratic Club also endorsed YES on Measure O.

The fact that detractors from not just one, but both sides are attacking it, gives us increased confidence that Measure O really is an intelligent solution with a high chance of passing.

Legalization of adult use cannabis is part of the California Democratic Party platform for the next couple of years. California will most likely vote yes on legalization in 2016. Measure O is the local measure that is most in alignment with this trajectory.

So often here in Lake County we end up behind the times. By voting Yes on Measure O here in Lake County this November 4th, we have the opportunity to be progressive, forward thinking, and maybe for a change, to be caught up with the 21st century. That sure would be nice.

So if you are like me, and realize that meeting in the middle is a crucial component of civilized and high functioning societies, then join me in ignoring the fear mongering tactics of the extremists and vote Yes on Measure O, the Medical Marijuana Control Act.
