Nelson Strasser was certainly correct in his October 24 letter terming the No on O flyer the “liar flyer.”

Let”s look at all the lies in this No on O piece. The No on O campaign claims that Measure O sets “no limits,” and allows “outdoor commercial marijuana grows everywhere – even in residential neighborhoods.” Actually, Measure O bans commercial grows in neighborhoods, and sets very strict limits, allowing only 4 plants (the state standard is 6 per person) to be grown on property less than an acre. And if such a small garden creates a nuisance, it can be abated under Measure O. Larger collective grows are only allowed on parcels at least 5 acres in size.

The No on O campaign also claims that Measure O “makes it virtually impossible for the county to investigate criminal activities at marijuana grows.” That”s absurd. The Sheriff will still be able to investigate any crimes, and the new Medical Marijuana Enforcement Department will work closely with the Sheriff to stop illegal grows.

The “liar flyer” claims that Measure O gives growers “the green light to pollute our environment and steal our water.” Actually, Measure O has extremely strict environmental controls, creating severe penalties for anyone polluting the environment or stealing water, and collectives (more than 12 plants) will be required to register, pay fees, and show proof of a legal water source and a farming plan that prevents erosion and fertilizer runoff.

The No on O campaign “liar flyer” also claims that Measure O “has nothing to do with medical marijuana.” But that”s what Measure O is all about – regulating medical marijuana cultivation in a reasonable and meaningful way.

Oh, and the picture on the front of the “liar flyer” claims to show serious environmental damage in Lake County, but it is actually a picture from Crystal Ranch Road in the Feather Falls area in Butte County. http://www.bsane.org/drupal/?q=content/crystal-ranch-road-feather-falls-ca

The Butte County criminals were prosecuted for their actions and environmental damage. Measure O will help stop this type of criminal activity with oversight of legal patient gardens, and by freeing up the Sheriff to go after criminal growers like the one in Butte County.

Please don”t be fooled by the No on O “liar flyer.” It is nothing but lies and innuendos. Vote Yes on Measure O!
