Deborah Ard, nurse from Coast Hospital in Fort Bragg, spent an entire Saturday instructing 16 Lake County Office of Education medical assistant students about the dangers of bacteria and viruses.
This proved to be a timely lecture as we are in the throes of the Ebola situation in the country.
The entire class agreed they will never wash their hands the same way again or look at the many and varied possible ways of contaminating themselves or others by not using the knowledge and techniques they learned from Ard.
According to the instructor, universal precautions are the buzz words and should be put into practice by all people especially during this upcoming flu season. Hand washing and sanitizing frequently touched items such as door knobs, table tops, shopping carts, computer keyboards and telephone receivers are but a few of the things we should be cleaning with soap and water or sanitizing wipes.
