At Lower Lake, the Middletown Mustangs put the finishing touches on a seventh straight NCL I championship run by shutting out the Lower Lake Trojans in the league final for both teams.
Middletown (11-1-2 league, 14-2-3 overall) rested banged up starters Madison Ketchum and Caitlin Lemoine in preparation for next week”s North Coast Section playoffs.
“I have some players who need the weekend off to rest but I think we”ll be ready to go by next week,” Middletown coach Amy Emerson said.
Middletown received solid play off the bench from Courtney Gilles, who filled in at left forward, and from Emma Quillen, who played at right midfielder.
“Courtney had a real strong game,” Emerson said.
Quillen had a goal waved off because a foul occurred on the play.
Middletown took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Rosie Emerson. Kaleigh Alves scored twice in the second half, the first one assisted by Megan Touros.
“Megan made an amazing cross,” Emerson said.
“Our first game against them this season, we lost 9-0,” Lower Lake coach Kali Begley said. “We have definitely improved, which is obvious by the progression of scores. Next year our team is going to turn heads even more. I am really proud of the girls for how hard they have worked this season and how committed they were to improving. Next year will be even better.”
The Trojans honored their three seniors, Gabriela Rubio, Rosalinda Cuevas and Martha Montanez, prior to the game.
“We are going to have a very hard time trying to replace them for next season. We will surely miss these three,” Begley said.

Kelseyville”s best scoring chance was a penalty kick by Cristina Covarrubias with 20 minutes left in the game.
“It hit the corner of the post and spun out,” Kelseyville coach Dave Wold said. “It”s the first penalty kick she”s missed all season.”
Kelseyville”s defense limited Willits to three shots on goal.
“Everybody played really well today,” Wold said. “I”ll take a tie before a loss any day.”
The Knights completed their second season under Wold at 1-10-3 in league and 5-11-3 overall. Most of Kelseyville”s starters return next year.
“I”m looking forward to next season,” Wold said.
