In the June election, Smith garnered the most votes, with 43.5-percent approval, but didn”t receive the required 50.1 percent vote to secure the supervisor seat for District 2.

The remaining votes were split between Clearlake City Councilwomen Jeri Spittler and Joyce Overton, who received 29.3 percent and 27.2 percent, respectively.

During the 2010 election, Smith received 62.4 percent of the vote, while Overton, the only challenging candidate, received 37.4 percent.

“My goal is to bring more county services, infrastructure, jobs and businesses to Clearlake,” Smith stated. “I”ve supported positive economic development throughout the county, including community revitalization, abatement and a regional shopping center, which is the key to success for Clearlake.”

Brosnan and Steele received the most votes for District 3, which had six candidates gunning for the position, during the June election. Brosnan received 19.3 percent, while Steele garnered 31.7 percent.

Steele”s campaign has focused on Lucerne”s water costs, in-home services and rent control for seniors and public safety. He has a master”s degree in biology, a forester”s license, business degree and 30 years of public service experience. He has worked with state and federal agencies on environmental and economic issues. Steele”s campaign also appeared more organized over the long run, with Brosnan making a late push.

“I am the candidate with the broadest leadership and technicial background for the crucial decisions needed to restore and protect our lake and build a thriving economy,” Steele said in his candidate statement.

Brosnan”s campaign focused on keeping crime rates, taxes and utility rates low, as well as job creation.

“As a business owner, I have spent decades building communities one building at a time,” Brosnan stated. “I am the only candidate who has created jobs.”
