FORT BRAGG >> On a night when the Clear Lake Cardinals committed a season-low six serve receive errors, they rolled past the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 25-17, 25-18, 26-28, 25-19 in a North Central League I varsity volleyball match at Fort Bragg.
It was the league and regular-season finale for both teams. Clear Lake finishes 7-7 in the NCL I standings to Fort Bragg”s 6-8. The Cardinals will apply for an at-large berth in the North Coast Section Division V playoffs and will learn on Sunday if they”ve made it and who and where they will be playing in the first round.
Avenging a loss to Fort Bragg last month in Lakeport, the Cardinals were on their game and then some in the rematch, according to Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds.
“It”s the best I”ve seen them play all season,” she said.
Emily Psalmonds had a strong outing at setter with 41 assists and 14 digs. Another standout was Jasmine Rice with 26 digs, six kills and two aces.
“She was digging everything up,” Psalmonds said of Rice.
Also contributing to the win were Aliza Atkins with 17 kills, four blocks and 13 digs, Kiana Richardosn with 10 kills and two blocks, and Rachel Wingler with eight kills and nine digs.
Clear Lake”s junior varsity team clinched the outright league championship earlier in the night with a come-from-behind 17-25, 25-18, 16-14 win over Fort Bragg. The Cardinals reeled off nine straight points to erase a 14-7 deficit in the third set.
