LAKEPORT >> The Lakeport City Council (LCC) will see an incumbent councilwoman return, as well as a new face join the council.
Stacey Mattina, who was first elected onto the LCC in 2010, garnered 578 votes Tuesday, according to preliminary results. Mireya Turner received one more vote than Mattina, totall 579 votes.
Three candidates were running for two positions. Mattina was seeking reelection and had been endorsed by Tom Engstrom, who was vacating his seat on the council.
A total of 37.5 percent of votes had been counted in both Turner”s and Mattina”s favor. Michael Balentine”s claimed 25 percent of the vote, or 386 votes.
“I”m thrilled with the election and all the support I received,” Mattina said. “We have a fantastic council and I”m looking forward to a productive four years.”
Mattina captured 21.6 percent of the vote in 2010, emerging with the most in a crowded field. Mattina”s years in local real estate and public service aided her cause.
Turner likewise benefited from vocal and visible backing.
“It was a great campaign season and a pleasure to focus on Lakeport issues with two other capable candidates,” Turner said.
A total of slight less than 1,100 vote were cast in Lakeport”s four precincts. The city has a little less than 2,600 registered voters. Of the votes cast, 589 were absentee ballots, while 478 were submitted at precincts.
In the November 2012 election, Lakeport had approximately 2,700 registered voters, of whom a little more than 1,900 submitted ballots. In that election, 1,183 votes were from absentee ballots and 735 were submitted at precincts.
