MIDDLETOWN >> Renee Edwards pounded out 14 kills on only 18 arm swings Thursday night as the Middletown Mustangs overpowered Lower Lake 25-15, 25-13, 25-12 in the North Central League I finale for both of these varsity volleyball teams at Middletown.
It was senior night for the Mustangs (8-6) and coach Jennifer Breiner made a point of starting her seniors. Edwards, a senior who started every match for Middletown this season, also led the team with nine blocks.
“She”s amazing,” Breiner said.
Another senior starter, Ginacia Dusatko, added 10 kills and 10 digs while Jess DeSilva had seven kills on 10 arm swings with four blocks.
“We”re ending (league) real strong,” Breiner said. “I am excited about the playoffs.”
Middletown, third in the final NCL I standings behind winner St. Helena and runner-up Kelseyville, will apply for an at-large berth in the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs, which begin next week. The at-large and seeding meeting is Sunday.
“We”re clicking right now and figuring things out,” Breiner said.
Lower Lake won the junior varsity 18-25, 25-19, 15-11.
