LAKEPORT >> When author-director Suna Flores contacted the music group Mannheim Steamroller about using their music in her original play, “Once Upon a Christmas Card,” she wasn”t expecting to get much of a response. What she did get was, she said, a pleasant surprise.
“I was writing and re-writing a Christmas fairytale and the music I was hearing in my head was Mannheim Steamroller”s Christmas music,” Flores said. “To me it brought out every feeling that my characters were experiencing. It was a perfect match and fortunately for me the Mannheim Steamroller organization thought so too and approved the project. I was thrilled.”
Once Upon a Christmas Card is not a musical, but Flores wanted to take advantage of the sound system and acoustics in Soper Reese Community Theatre, she said. Flores wanted to provide accompanying, and contacted the award winning Mannheim Steamroller organization with her request.
“Hopefully, Lake County Theater Company”s premier production of Once Upon a Christmas Card will have superior acting, an exceptional plot and unexpected twists in the story line,” Flores said. “But I think there is something more that should be added to complete a production and really evoke the emotions that I want the audience to feel. Every good production needs music.”
Once Upon a Christmas Card opens Dec. 6 at the Soper Reese Community Theatre and continues with performances on Dec. 6,7,13 and 14 at both 2 p.m. matinees and 7 p.m. performances. Tickets can be purchased by calling the theater at 263-0577 or online at www.soperreesetheatre.com. Tickets cost $10 for general seating and $15 for premier seating. Non-perishable foods and toys will be collected at each performance.
The theater is located at 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
