Long ago, when I (or me and my friends) got a bit out of control, my mother used to caution us to “Know when to stop!” We American”s are fortunate to have the freedoms of speech and religion and should be proud of them. But there comes a time when enough is enough. I think it is time to limit the hassle between the Bible and simple faith advocates and the Science advocates that almost daily in the opinion page. The two views are different and are not likely to be reconciled by hollering at one another to the detriment of other readers who really aren”t that interested.
People with firm beliefs should not demean those beliefs by constantly feeling they have to defend them. If one “believes”, that should be sufficient in itself and should be honored by all, just as the cherished beliefs of others should be honored. Constantly arguing about beliefs diminishes both does not honor either. As Mom used to say: “Know when to stop!”
