The annual Trucker”s Light Parade in Ukiah is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6. Groups and business decorate the vehicles to create a colorful, rolling display that is a popular event. Yet it may not raise funds to cover the costs.

Last year the insurance for this event went up significantly. It used to be around $1,200. Stevo”s Towing and Storage(Tim Wiles and Steve Redding) came up with the balance. A generous donation from Ukiah Ambulance and John Mayfield made up another $700 for the amount owed. Everyone who helped with registration and street closures were all volunteers.

At this rate organizers would need to have 55 to 60 paid entries to come out even for this event; parade organizers feel that”s an unrealistic expectation.

But the parade is a go for this year. Participants will leave the Ukiah Municipal Airport promptly at 6 p.m. and roll all the way through town to Jensen”s Restaurant at the Truck Stop.

Cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second, $25 for third will be awarded immediately after the parade ends. Awards will be handed out in the back room at Jensen”s Restaurant.
