In my recent letter concerning belief I failed to make an important point.
Whether one is a Christian or an atheist we are guaranteed by the first amendment the right to believe as we wish.
Since fundamentalist Christians cannot compel belief in their dogma in the current era the way they did in the dark ages, the threat of an afterlife of eternal torture awaits atheists and disbelievers like me. This is Christianity”s ultimate inducement to believe “properly.” So essentially Christians are saying “believe as you wish, but if you don”t believe as we do you will pay a price far worse than capital punishment.”
I like Guff”s style. His letters are well thought out and even handed.
Gregg Blinn is pitch perfect for me. He is not only scholarly, he is eloquent.
