The Dorian May Trio cleaned out the cobwebs for three hours last Friday at the Music Appreciation Club in Kelseyville with classics like “Black Orpheus,” written 1959 by Brazilian composers, Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Jobim, along with vintage from across the Jazz galaxy. They performed along with a special guest.
The Trio appears at Soper-Reese Theatre, Lakeport, Nov. 21, 2014 bringing Latin, Jazz, Show Themes, Pop and “there will be dancing”, according to upright bass player Dorothea May.
The trio”s founder, Dorian May, is a degreed piano performer. At the Keyboards, he takes you to places you never knew you wanted to go. Tom Rickard, Drums, out of Ft. Bragg, brings a ”beat” wisdom that keeps the crew timely. Rickard and May play a little game of ”chicken” now and then as to whether or not Rickard will meet, on time, the final note of the crescendo, held in abeyance by May for several breathless heartbeats before he allows the keys, bass and drums to converge.
