LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Board of Supervisors recognized Lake County Superintendent of Schools Wally Holbrook for his years of service during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
Holbrook is retiring from the position after four years, having not sought re-election in the June primary election. Brock Falkenberg will be his replacement, after running unopposed in for the position.
District 3 Supervisor Rob Brown presented the proclamation commending Holbrook.
Holbrook was elected as Superintendent of School in 2010 and has been involved in the creation of several programs, including The Hub at Upper Lake High School, which serves as a family and student service center. He has also been involved with the successful Heroes Project to improving parenting practices, the Literacy Task Force and the Mock Trial Program, which was created in conjunction with the Lake County Superior Court. The Heroes Project was honored in this year”s Stars of Lake County awards.
From the Lucerne Hotel Education Task Force and the advisory council for the Marymount California University Lakeside Campus, to the Lake County Redevelopment Successor Agency Oversight Board and the Lake County First 5 Commission, Holbrook”s service to the community has extended beyond normal professional assignments, Brown observed while addressing the board.
After the commendation, Holbrook thanked the supervisors and audience, which gave him a standing ovation.
Holbrook”s career in education began four decades ago, when he received his Standard Secondary Teaching Credential in August 1974. Seven years later, he earned an Administrative Services Credential.
Before being elected as Superintendent as Schools, Holbrook was appointed as the principal for Kesleyville”s Gard Street School, as well as the first principal of Mount Vista Middle School. In 1991, he served as Superintendent of the Kelseyville Unified School District.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve our children and community,” he said.
