LAKE COUNTY >> For 30 years people in Lake County have been making the holidays a little warmer for their neighbors in need. Many residents dedicate the giving in memory of relatives, friends and others. A collaborative effort of Lake County Publishing, the Lakeport Rotary Club, Bruno”s Shop Smart, Foods Etc., Scully Packing, Umpqua banks, Westamerica banks, Lake Family Resource Center and NCO Community Action Agency, provides Christmas baskets to people in need during the holidays.

A total of 1,200 baskets will be distributed, 600 to the Northshore and 600 to the Southshore. Baskets are limited to one per physical address.

Sign up dates began Dec. 2. For the Northshore they take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Family Resource Center, located at 5350 Main St. in Kelseyville.

Sign up dates and times for the Southshore are as follows:

Dec. 5 at IGA Foods, 15312 Lakeshore Dr., Clearlake at the back of the building from 1 to 4 p.m., Dec. 8 at IGA Foods from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 10 at NCO, 14832 Lakeshore Dr., Clearlake from 8 to 11 a.m.

Basket pickup day for the Northshore is Dec. 17 at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Basket pickup for the Southshore is Dec. 23.

Applicants will need to bring proof of residency in Lake County, such as a government issued photo ID, and proof of income. All sign-ups must be made by Dec. 10; no exceptions will be made.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Christmas basket program may bring or mail contributions to any branch of Umpqua and Westamerica banks. Checks should be written out to Lake County Christmas Fund. Donations made this year will fund next year”s baskets.

The donation and holiday message will appear in the Lake County Record-Bee and the Clear Lake Observer*American.
