SAN LORENZO >> In a back-and-forth game that wasn”t decided until the final minutes, Lick Wilmerding of San Francisco beat the Middletown Mustangs 45-36 in the championship game of the Redwood Christian Basketball Tournament on Saturday in San Lorenzo.

All-Tournament selection Anthonie Guzman scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs (2-1), who beat Oakland Military Institute 75-18 in opening-round action Wednesday and Redwood Christian 49-42 in Friday”s semifinal round.

“We only had three practices before the tournament started,” Middletown coach G.J. Rockwell said. “They looked good. Our defense played tough but we couldn”t get anything to fall against them (Lick Wilmerding).”

Von Self and Cody Chorjel had seven points apiece for Middletown against Lick Wilmerding. Chorjel also made the All-Tourney team.

Kelseyville 69

Colusa 52

At Kelseyville, a 25-9 second quarter proved to be the difference in the game as the Kelseyville Knights defeated the Colusa Redhawks in the third-place game of the 43rd annual Stokes Invitational.

Victor Fernandez scored 10 of his team-leading 14 points in the first half for Kelseyville (2-1) while also leading the team with five blocks and seven steals. Brandon Huber added 12 points and Tyler Riewerts had eight. Fernandez and Kyle Ellis, who had six points and a team-best 15 rebounds, were named to the All-Tournament team.

“We did a great job on defense and a great job holding them to one shot,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said. “The game felt closer than the final score showed.”

Clear Lake 62

Upper Lake 20

At Kelseyville, in a battle of two teams looking for their first win of the season, the Clear Lake Cardinals beat the Upper Lake Cougars in the seventh-place game of the Stokes Invitational. Jared Strate led the Cardinals with 24 points — 12 in each half — and Jordan Chana added 13 points.

Clear Lake led 35-15 at halftime.

Upper Lake (0-4) received eight points from J.T. Claunch and another six from Jon Sparks.

St. Helena Tournament

St. Helena 26

At St. Helena, Hoke Wickard scored 14 points and Dustin Martin chipped in with nine as the Lower Lake Trojans beat tournament host St. Helena for third place in the St. Helena Tournament.

Wickard, a freshman, was named to the All-Tournament team along with senior Mauricio Jauregui.

Lower Lake (2-1) struggled on offense but finally pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring St. Helena 15-3.

“Our offense all tourney long had trouble getting going,” Lower Lake coach Tim Biasotti said. “We”ve worked really hard on our defense and it has really shown. It was really good.”

At Lakeport, Garrett Chernoh and Marlon Jones scored 16 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lower Lake Trojans, trailing by double digits at halftime, rallied back to make a game of it against Cloverdale in the championship game of the Clear Lake JV Tournament.

Chernoh and Jones were named to the All-Tournament team.

Clear Lake 55

Colusa 52

At Lakeport, Tanner Hutton scored 23 points and Cameron Borg and Kyle Ashworth contributed 12 apiece as Clear Lake clinched third place with a win over Colusa. Hutton and Christian Rivera were Clear Lake”s All-Tourney selections.

Middletown 36

Willits 19

At Lakeport, the Middletown Mustangs beat Willits for the consolation championship as Pierre Bracisco scored 11 points and Ricardo Chaires added 10. Chaires and Beckett Hoage were named to the All-Tournament team.
