HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> A stretch of road on Hartmann Road in Hidden Valley Lake will soon become a no-parking zone.
The Lake County Public Works Department brought the request to the count”s Board of Supervisors after residents of the area voiced safety concerns. Vehicles parked alongside the road often partially obstructed the view of drivers or narrowed the traffic lanes.
Currently “there is no restriction on the road” between Coyote Valley Road and a the Hardester”s Market and Hardware shopping center driveway, De Leon said. “There is enough room for vehicles to park, but there is no designated parking.”
The area in which parking will no longer be allowed measures 90 feet from the north edge of Coyote Valley Road on the west side of Hartmann Road, according to the ordinance.
When vehicles park in the area, it creates a “fairly significant site distance problem.” The problem is heighten when delivery vehicles, such as FedEx or UPS, park on the street.
The supervisors first debated the reason drivers use this stretch of road. District 5 Supervisor Rob Brown asked why people park on the street and if there were other parking options.
“There is plenty of parking in the parking lot,” De Leon said. “People are just stopping there because there is room ? it is convenient.”
District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing said that “some people just don”t like parking in parking lots.”
District 1 Supervisor Jim Comstock, whose district includes Hidden Valley Lake, said he “full-heartedly supports” the ordinance, stating safety concerns when school begins and ends each day.
Coyote Valley Road leads to the Coyote Valley Elementary School.
“It can be very dangerous,” Comstock said.
The ordinance will take effect Jan. 8. A notification will be published within 15 days of its implementation.
The board unanimously approved the ordinance, which is required to create the no-parking area.
No member of the public offered comment on the topic.
