UPPER LAKE >> Valerie Hutton celebrated her 15th birthday with 15 first-half points against Upper Lake on Tuesday night, leading the Clear Lake Cardinals to a 59-23 victory in non-league junior varsity girls” basketball action at Upper Lake.
Hutton, who has a twin brother (Tanner) on Clear Lake”s JV boys” basketball team, finished with a team-leading 21 points as the Cardinals improved to 5-0 on the season.
“She is great, just amazing,” Clear Lake coach Jamie Watkins said of Hutton, a freshman shooting guard.
Joining Hutton in double figures were teammates Corin Alakszay with 15 points and Camille Donald with 11.
Brenna Sanchez scored seven points to lead Upper Lake and Isabel Rorabaugh added six.
The Cardinals play Round Valley in the opening round of their own tournament Friday at 6:45 p.m. at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport. They will play two more games on Saturday.
