LAKE COUNTY >> Five Lake County football players earned first-team honors on both offense and defense as North Central League I coaches recently met to select the All-NCL I team.
Middletown seniors Anthonie Guzman, Cody Chorjel and Wyatt Hall joined Lower Lake seniors Isazah King and Anthony Williams as two-way first-team selections.
Guzman was honored on the first-team offense as a wide receiver and on the first-team defense as a defensive back; Chorjel garnered honors as a tight end on offense and a linebacker on defense; and Hall was a first-team running back and a first-team defensive end.
King, who was dynamic on offense and defense for the Trojans in 2014, earned most valuable player honors on defense where he intercepted five passes and returned three of them for touchdowns from his position in the Lower Lake secondary. He also was named first-team quarterback after two of the league”s other top quarterbacks, Kaylor Sullivan of Fort Bragg and Jack Preston of St. Helena, shared co-MVP honors on offense.
Williams, among Lake County”s sack leaders, was named to the first-team defense as a defensive end and to the first-team offense as a lineman.
Six other Lake County players were honored on either the first-team offense or defense.
On offense, Kelseyville senior Robert McLean earned the nod at running back while teammate Codi McGuire, a senior, was selected as a lineman. Middletown senior Gerardo Cruz also was honored as a lineman.
On defense, Middletown”s Joey Burns was named to the first-team defensive line while Clear Lake senior Cole Brodnansky and Kelseyville junior Noah Lyndall were honored as linebackers.
Lake County”s lone honorable mention was senior offensive lineman Julian Lewis of Clear Lake.
St. Helena and Fort Bragg tied for the NCL I title with 6-1 records. Middletown came in third at 5-2.
