Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office took Marcus Gregory, 20 of Lucerne, into custody on Sunday after the allegedly fired shots at several people outside of the Riviera Motel.
He was arrested on charges of attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, terrorist threats, resisting arrest and exhibiting a deadly weapon. Gregory was booked at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
According to reports, several people observed Gregory involved in a domestic dispute in the motel’s parking lot, located at Highway 20 in Lucerne. When deputies responded at approximately 6:50 p.m. witnesses alleged Gregory had been hitting a female victim and attempting to choke her while both were inside a parked vehicle.
A witness apparently pulled Gregory off the woman. The accused fought briefly with this person, then reportedly retrieved a handgun from a motel room and began pointing it at those outside while threatening to open fire. As people scattered, he started shooting toward them.
Witnesses reported hearing five to seven shots. There were no injuries from this outburst of gunfire.
Deputies observed the suspect running into a room, carrying the weapon. Gregory then jumped through a window, allegedly attempting to escape the scene. He was taken into custody almost immediately.
The initial investigation detailed damage to the exterior of the motel reportedly caused by bullets. Deputies also collected expended shell casings and other evidence at the scene.
Gregory was treated for a laceration he suffered while jumping through the window.
