FORESTVILLE >> A 15-5 third quarter propelled the Kelseyville Knights past the El Molino Lions 47-37 in non-league varsity girls’ basketball action on Wednesday night in Forestville.

“We had a 10-point swing there (in that quarter),” Kelseyville coach Jim Hale said. “That was a pretty good swing.”

Hale was referring to the five-point deficit — 23-18 — the Knights (4-3) faced after the first half. By the end of the third quarter they led the Lions 33-28.

Riley Goff powered Kelseyville’s offense with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, but she also had plenty of help from teammates Alma Perez (13 points) and Heidy Cano (10 points).

“They played great,” Hale said of Perez and Cano, both first-year varsity players.

Cano’s play down low gave the Knights a big lift, according to Hale.

“She did a nice job getting some putbacks and rolling to the basket,” Hale said.

Haleigh Meyer added six points.

Kelseyville’s next scheduled game is Jan. 1 in the opening round of the Chernoh Classic in Lower Lake.

In the junior varsity game on Wednesday, Tymeka Green led the way with 16 points as Kelseyville defeated El Molino 32-20.

Kelseyville played airtight defense in limiting the host Lions to eight first-half points.

“We played a solid defensive game,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said.

Bailey Touey added seven points as the Knights improved their record to 5-3. Kelseyville led 17-8 at halftime.

Both Kelseyville teams were scheduled to host El Molino on Saturday but those games have been canceled.
