LAKEPORT >> Nearly 100 children who have gone through the county”s victim-witness office received Christmas presents on Friday.

Law enforcement personnel and volunteers met up at the Lake County District Attorney”s Office Victim-Witness Division office to deliver toys donated by the Parish of St. Mary Immaculate.

“It”s nice to experience something fun in our line of work,” victim-witness program director Deborah Wallace said. “We all love what we do, but it”s good to do something like this. It”s a nice time of year.”

Now in its 17th year, the victim-witness office compiles a list of children who then write out their wishes on cards that get placed on a Christmas tree at St. Mary”s church. Donors choose a card and purchase the gifts, according to Wallace. Officers make the deliveries, which serves a way for children to have positive interaction with law enforcement.

“It gives them the chance to do something nice instead of looking like the bad guy,” Wallace stated.
