A fire on Wednesday destroyed house on Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville. The resident was reportedly unhurt.

Units from Kelseyville and Lakeport Fire Protection Districts responded quickly to the call, which came in at 11:27 a.m.

“It was fully involved when we got there,” said Paul Scott, a captain with the Kelseyville FPD. “But the guys from Riviera did a good job of knocking it down.”

The Riviera station was the first to arrive, followed by other Kelseyville units, including a water tender, and a truck from Lakeport. The crews followed up on the initial attack, bringing the fire fully under control in approximately one hour.

The truck from Lakeport was able to leave the scene before 1 p.m.

According to Scott, one adult male lived at the address, near Crystal Drive. He was at the location, but it was unknown at press time whether he had been inside when the fire started. He did not require first aid and there were no reported injuries among the firefighters.

As the first calls came in, the California Highway Patrol dispatched two units. The first was for a request to clear one lane of traffic for emergency vehicles. Shortly after that, CHP determined to block traffic in both directions.

The structure is still standing and, Stone said, the owner will be able to recover and save some of his possessions. Otherwise, he observed, the house is likely beyond repair, at least upon initial observation.

The cause of the fire was unknown at press time and under investigation. Kelseyville FPD is conducting the follow up.
