LAKEPORT >> Lakeport Library and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — Education (SNAP-ED) program will host “Cooking with Walnuts” Saturday at 2 p.m. Amy Patton from the library and Dana Kent, the project director for SNAP-ED and a registered dietician with the Lake County Health Services, will demonstrate a variety of healthful recipes using one of Lake County”s agricultural products.

The program is free-of-charge and open to the public. Program guests will be able to sample the walnut dishes.

Walnuts are high in vitamins and minerals, have no cholesterol and supply omega-3 fatty acids. Besides being a good snack by themselves, they can be used in baked goods, salads and main dishes. Walnuts have been grown in Lake County for decades.

Lakeport Library, located at 1425 N. High St., is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday noon to 8 p.m. The phone number is 263-8817.
