LAKE COUNTY >> The Kelseyville Kids Garden Club received a $50 donation from the Lakeport Women”s Civic Club (LWCC) at its January meeting. LWCC President Toni Stewart presented the check to Helen Finch, garden club founder.
The kids garden club involves an average of 30 fourth- and fifth-grade students who work in the garden two days a week learning a variety of social skills as well as literacy skills along with their growing knowledge of nutrition and gardening, according to Tricia Frazer of the LWCC.
The garden club is part of the Farm to Schools program which brings freshly grown produce into the local high school. Finch depends upon volunteers and donations to keep the program going.
