CLEARLAKE >> The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) will host a “Citizen Academy” beginning Feb. 4. The training and information is designed to be instructed over five days, which will be spread out over each Wednesday during the month of February.

The academy will be open to anyone older than the age of 18 who wants to attend, can pass a brief background check, has no felony convictions and has an interest in learning more about law enforcement, more specifically the CPD.

This Citizen Academy will correspond with the Clearlake Police Volunteer Academy. Attendees who complete the course may have the opportunity to join the Clearlake Police Volunteer program also knows as the VIP program if they would like. Those who decide to join the VIP program will receive an additional two days of training to meet the requirements for the VIP program.

Academy attendees can expect to get a inside look at the CPD along with being provided the information of what it takes to be a volunteer in policing and receive information about the law and how to apply that information to scenarios.

To attend the academy, complete an application and return it by Jan. 29. Approved applicants will be contacted via telephone and invited to attend the course as applications are received. Pick up an application at the police department located at 14050 Olympic Drive in Clearlake. or print one from the city of Clearlake website at www.clearlake.ca.us and follow the prompts to the police department.
