CLEARLAKE >> In honor of the reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the principles he believed in for a better nation, on Jan. 19, Martin Luther King Day, there will be a day of celebration, dubbed “Unity Day.” The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Austin Park, rain or shine.

Billed as a day for coming together as a community to heal and renew respect and love for one another, all churches, organizations and individuals are invited to attend this first annual event, which is sponsored by Praises of Zion Baptist Church in Clearlake. There will be guest speakers, music, food and fellowship. Nothing will be sold at Unity Day and everything is free to those attending. People from all ethnic backgrounds, all genders, all races, all churches and all beliefs are encouraged to come together for one day of solidarity of love and respect. It is a family and community event.

Organizers are asking for help and support from the community to make this a successful event. If you would like to participate, provide food, play music or help in any way, contact Lynette Kirkwood at 461-9409 or June Jackson at 676-7718.
