UPDATED:

Lake County has one of the strictest boat inspection requirements for invasive species in Northern California. All boaters are required to have their boats inspected and be issued a Lake County quagga mussel sticker before launching their boat in any body of water in the county. Residents can purchase an annual quagga mussel sticker and nonresidents are required to purchase a sticker monthly.

The cost per sticker is $10.

In 2014 the county issued 5,698 resident stickers and 7,059 nonresident stickers for a total of 12,757 stickers. That compares with a total of 14,771 quagga mussel stickers issued in 2013.

Mark Miller of the Lake County Water Resources Department is still looking for more volunteers to monitor Clear Lake”s primary boat launching ramps in an effort to protect the lake from Quagga and Zebra mussels. Miller says the schedule will be very flexible and they will only be asked to work a few hours per day. The volunteers will be trained and be stationed at the main ramps in the county.

To obtain further information and apply as a program volunteer monitor please contact Miller at (707) 263-2344 or (707) 272-0760 (cell). Interested citizens can also email Miller at mark.miller@lakecountyca.gov.
