CLEARLAKE >> Three teenage girls suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday. The incident took place on Spruce Grove Road north of the Jerusalem grade.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the three were southbound on Spruce Grove Road at approximately 3 p.m. traveling at a high rate of speed. Exiting a curve the driver, 16, lost control of the car after allowing a wheel to drop off the asphalt onto the shoulder.
The car sideswiped two trees before crashing head on into a third tree.
All three were wearing safety belts, but all ended up with major injuries. The driver and one passenger, 14, each suffered spinal fractures and a collapsed lung. The other passenger, 16, ended up with a broken collar bone.
CHP investigators have yet to determine the speed at which they were traveling. Officers do not consider drugs or alcohol a factor in the crash.
