LOWER LAKE >> There have been plenty of great moments for the Lower Lake High School wrestling team the last few seasons. Wednesday night wasn”t one of them.

With a chance to move atop the Coastal Mountain Conference dual meet standings, the Trojans didn”t come close, falling 42-25 to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in a battle of two undefeated teams entering Wednesday”s action.

“They came to wrestle,” Lower Lake coach Ed Fuchs said of the Timberwolves. “It was a bit of a shock for us to have it that lopsided.”

Of the 13 contested weight divisions (out of 14), Lower Lake won four and only two by pin. The Trojans also received one forfeit.

Fort Bragg, the defending CMC champion, isn”t out of the woods yet as far as the CMC race is concerned. If Lower Lake can win out from here, there”s a chance the Trojans could catch Fort Bragg with a strong showing on Feb. 21 at the CMC Championships in Upper Lake. Until then, the Timberwolves (7-0), who also beat Kelseyville 63-16 on Wednesday, are the clear frontrunner to win another conference crown.

Lower Lake (5-1) beat Kelseyville 51-12 in the final dual of the night. Kelseyville is 4-3 in dual action.
