CLEARLAKE OAKS >> The body found in a fire Sunday afternoon as has been identified as that of Robert Hood.

Lt. Steve Brooks of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) confirmed the victim’s identity Tuesday afternoon.

Hood, 76, was found dead in a unit destroyed by a blaze at the Lake Haven Motel. Other rooms also sustained a considerable amount of damage which has forced the motel to shut down, Northshore Fire Protection District Chief Jay Beristianos said Monday. No other injuries were reported due to the fire, which took about an hour to get under control.

According to several of the hotel residents displaced by the fire, Red Cross funds are providing temporary housing in a local hotel, but these monies will end soon.

Beristianos did not suspect foul play.

Brooks said the autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and it will take an estimated 14 days before getting the official cause of death.
