LOWER LAKE >> Bouncing back from a 79-32 beatdown at the hands of St. Patrick/St. Vincent on Thursday in first-round action, the Kelseyville High School varsity boys’ basketball team routed Point Arena 69-42 in a second-round game on Friday during the second annual Chernoh Excavating Classic in Lower Lake.
Kelseyville (6-3) jumped on the Pirates early and led 27-12 after one quarter.
“A good bounceback game for us,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad. “We wanted to get the taste of last night out of our mouths.”
Tyler Riewarts scored eight of his team-leading 17 points in the first quarter for the Knights. Brandon Huber added 15 points and Kyle Ellis finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
“He had a nice all-around game,” Conrad said of Ellis. “He also played well last night against St. Pat’s.”
Ellis led the Knights with 16 points in their first-round loss.
St. Patrick/St. Vincent of Vallejo simply overwhelmed Kelseyville with its speed, according to Conrad.
“We practiced for it, but there’s no way to simulate their speed and it’s not like we have slow kids,” Conrad said. “Their speed intimidated us.”
St. Patrick/St. Vincent led 23-9 after one quarter and 42-17 at halftime.
Kelseyville plays Averroes of Fremont today at 1:30 p.m. as the tournament wraps up.
