WILLITS >> Minus one starter and one reserve, the Clear Lake High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team took one more step toward a perfect season with a 49-39 victory over the Willits Wolverines in North Central League I action on Thursday in Willits.
Three players combined for 39 of the Cardinals’ 49 points, led by by Valerie Hutton’s 15 points. Corin Alakszay added 14 and Alyssa Thornton had 10 as Clear Lake improved to 8-0 in the league standings and 20-0 overall with six games remaining.
“It was intense,” Clear Lake coach Jamie Watkins said. “But the girls did a great job again.”
Clear Lake faces a key road test on Tuesday against Lower Lake at 5:30 p.m. The Trojans are 6-2 in league play.
