LAKEPORT >> Sophomore guard Max De Leon wasn’t fooling around on Tuesday night as the Clear Lake Cardinals, coming off a rare loss, bounced back in a big way against the St. Helena Saints in a North Central League I junior varsity boys’ basketball game at Lakeport.

De Leon finished with 30 points, including eight 3-pointers, as the Cardinals (2-1 league, 13-2 overall) hammered the Saints 71-45. De Leon had 24 points by halftime and finished the game 10-for-17 from the field. He also had three steals.

Ryan Damiata contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals to the Cards’ victory while Tanner Hutton added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Lower Lake 76

Cloverdale 61

At Lower Lake, the Lower Lake JVs improved to 3-0 in the NCL I standings with a big win over the Cloverdale Eagles.

Jordan McGrath’s 26 points powered the Trojans. Taylor Scott added 12 points and Garrett Chernoh had 11.

Kelseyville 58

Middletown 44

At Middletown, the Kelseyville JVs (3-0) kept pace with Lower Lake atop the NCL I standings by beating the Middletown Mustangs (0-3).

Gideon Turner and Ean Valenzuela scored 11 points apiece for the Knights and Randy Pfann had nine. Beckett Hoage’s 10 points led Middletown.

“Middletown probably played the best game they’ve played this year,” Kelseyville coach Rich Facey said. “We played better in the second half and were able to get out and run and that made a big difference.”

In non-league action Saturday, Kelseyville beat El Molino 58-48 at Forestville behind 15 points from Turner, 13 from Nate Carpenter and 11 from Valenzuela.

Sonoma Academy 41

Upper Lake 31

At Santa Rosa, the Upper Lake Cougars fell to the Sonoma Academy Coyotes in NCL II action despite 11 points from Nathan Sneed and 10 from Tim Beffa.

GIRLS

Kelseyville 23

Middletown 22

At Kelseyville, Rachael Linnell scored nine points and Tymeka Green had eight as the Kelseyville Knights edged the Middletown Mustangs in NCL I action.

Callie Wilson had eight points for Middletown.

Clear Lake 50

St. Helena 27

At St. Helena, another balanced scoring effort helped Clear Lake rout the St. Helena Saints in NCL I action, making the Cardinals 3-0 in league play and 15-0 overall.

Camille Donald led the way with 14 points, Valerie Hutton added 12 with one 3-pointer, and Kiana Richardson and Corin Alakzsay each had 10 points.

Clear Lake led 29-16 at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half.

“They’re pretty amazing,” Clear Lake coach Jamie Watkins said of the players that make up the team’s 2014-15 roster. “They’re talented and super coachable. They did a lot of things tonight.”

Lower Lake 50

Cloverdale 40

At Cloverdale, Claire Alderson’s 12 points propelled the Lower Lake Trojans past the Cloverdale Eagles. Lower Lake improved to 2-1 in league play and 11-2 overall.

Shayna Pike joined Alderson in double figures with 11 points.
