FORESTVILLE >> Coming off an exhausting game the night before against the Fort Bragg Timberwolves, no one would have faulted the Kelseyville Knights for experiencing a bit of fatigue on Saturday in a non-league contest against the El Molino Lions at Forestville.

“It had me a little bit concerned because we had expended so much energy Friday night against Fort Bragg,” Kelseyville varsity boys’ basketball coach Scott Conrad said of a 65-48 league win over the Timberwolves, a game that was closer than the final score shows.

Instead, the Knights had their best shooting night of the season while taming the Lions 73-32.

“It had the recipe to be one of those flat, ugly games. We were on the road playing at 4:30 p.m. in a pretty empty gym,” Conrad said. “Go figure. We executed well at both ends and looked really good.”

Sophomore Kyle Ellis led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals.

“He’s one of the best all-around players in our league and there are still parts of his game he needs to work on,” Conrad said. “I’m going to be shocked if he doesn’t keep getting better.”

Ellis was hardly a one-man show for the Knights against the Lions. Hunter Beatty and Nick Pfann added 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Brandon Huber just missed double digits with nine points.

Kelseyville used a 21-point first quarter and a 23-point third quarter to build a big lead against the Lions, who trailed 57-28 entering the final period.

The Knights stay on the road for both of their North Central League I games this week. They visit Middletown tonight and Clear Lake on Friday.

“We’ve got a big week ahead,” Conrad said.
