UPPER LAKE >> Still smarting from a 66-54 loss to Sonoma Academy on Tuesday, the Upper Lake Cougars took out some of that frustration on Roseland Prep of Santa Rosa on Friday night, winning 70-39 at Upper Lake.
Natalie Karlsson scored 17 points with three 3-pointers and Skylar Orozco came alive with 16 points and two treys as the Cougars improved to 3-1 in the North Central League II varsity girls’ basketball standings and 13-3 overall.
“We came out with a vengeance,” Upper Lake coach Mike Smith said. “Roseland is not a bad little team and they’ve had our number the last couple of seasons.”
Upper Lake led 24-4 after one quarter and 42-16 at halftime.
“We were running the break, getting rebounds,” Smith said. “We dominated that first half.”
Karlsson and Orozco each hit 3-pointers in the first and second quarters to fuel the offense. Jojo Augustine added 14 points.
“We got Jojo going in the second half,” Smith said.
Roseland Prep was never closer than 20 points during the final two quarters.
Upper Lake’s junior varsity club also notched a win, 50-36, behind 17 points from Brenna Sanchez and 11 from KJ Taylor.
The Cougars play at Calistoga on Tuesday.
