LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Board of Supervisors approved the a resolution re-designating a position in the Lake County Human Resources Department this week.

A vacant office assistant position, as well as the current Grade 2 human resources technician position, will become two HR technician positions. These will be Grade 1 and Grade 2 positions.

“With the advent of pension reform and health care regulations and the work we do on a regular basis,” Lake County Human Resources Director Kathy Ferguson said, “it is becoming increasingly difficult for HR to keep up with the compliance requirements.”

The new position will be a lower level than the current HR technician position. According to the resolution presented to the board, Grade 1 technicians earn $13.76 an hour while Grade 2 technicians earn $15.19 an hour.

The Lake County Human Resources Department has a total of seven employees, which include a director, deputy director, a secretary and analysts, in addition to the technicians. The re-designation was requested by the HR department in order “to delegate additional analytical tasks and/or functions to our front desk position, which we currently cannot do within the existing classification structure,” Ferguson said.

Additionally, the re-designation will “also provide the department the flexibility to cross-train staff to ensure that certain key functions of the department, such as recruitments, are not delayed when staff members are out of the office.”

Ferguson said the Classification and Compensation Committee had reviewed the request and recommended its approval.

No members of the public commented on the position re-designation.

The board unanimously approved the resolution with a 5-0 vote.

Reclassifying the positions is cost neutral, according to Ferguson. As there is no change in salary associated with the reclassification, “the cost of the new HR technician ? for the remainder of the current fiscal year can be covered with money that is currently budgeted to the Human Resources Department,” she said.
