Lakeport >> With rain expected through the weekend, the city of Lakeport is asking for caution. Residents who experienced flooding during the last storm should take preventative measures for recurring storms with wind gusts.
Sand bags are available for purchase at hardware stores such as Mendo Mill & Lumber Co. (five free empty bags while supplies last) and Kelseyville Lumber ($0.45 per empty bag, $2.98 pre-filled bags, $1 fill personal bags), stated Cyndy Ader of Lakeport public works.
In the storm event of December, several street closures were in place. The city anticipates the same areas could be impacted in this storm event, according to Ader. Areas of concern are: Martin Street between Russell and South Forbes; Bevins Street between Bevins Court and Lakeport Boulevard; 10th Street from Forbes Street to Main Street; 16th Street and Hartley Street; 10th Street and Main Street; Lakeshore Boulevard and Lange Street; Lange Street and Giselman Street.
The public is encouraged to limit travel during the storm event. If travel is necessary, the public is reminded not to bypass barricades, avoid areas of standing water and reduce speeds.
City management, police and public works have been meeting and making preparations for the storm. The city will put out additional information as it is received. Staff is on stand by to respond to emergencies.
