MIDDLETOWN >> Lower Lake High School’s wrestling team lost just two matches on Wednesday while opening its Coastal Mountain Conference dual meet schedule with a pair of easy victories. The Trojans defeated host Middletown 61-6 and St. Helena 22-6.

In the seven contested weight classes against Middletown, Lower Lake won six matches. The Mustang’s lone victory came at 184 pounds where Wyatt Jones pinned Peerliss Brooke in the first-round.

“I would have liked to see him go a little farther (in the match),” Lower Lake coach Ed Fuchs said of one of his up-and-coming freshmen.

Lower Lake winners were Gabe Freeman, who moved up a weight class to 154 pounds and beat Scott Kelly 9-3; Jordan Harris, who pinned Cameron Ketchum in the second round at 197 pounds; Krystal Lockwood, who pinned Angela Egger in the second round at 108 pounds; Isaiah Klein, who won a 13-5 major decision against Clinton Crayne at 122 pounds; Daniel Meyer, who pinned Jake Samson in the first round at 128 pounds; and Mike Naber, who won by first-round pin over Evan Dodd at 134 pounds.

Lockwood’s victory came in her high school debut.

In Lower Lake’s win over St. Helena, Fuchs said the team score did not reflect all the forfeit victories — worth six points apiece — that the Trojans received.

Lower Lake won two of the three contested weight divisions. Freeman scored a 9-0 decision at 147 pounds while Dahsaan Booker won after St. Helena’s Javier Aguilera was disqualified for a head butt in the third-round of their match, which Booker was leading 6-2 at the time.

St. Helena’s win came at 154 pounds where Allan Martinez won by injury default against Jeremiah Young. Martinez was leading 12-5 when the match was stopped.

Middletown defeated St. Helena in the other dual. Of the three contested weight divisions, Middletown registered wins at 132 pounds where Kailei Foltmer pinned Noelanni Gutierrez in the second round, and at 152 pounds where Kelly pinned Martinez in the first round.

St. Helena’s Aguilera pinned Samson in the second round at 126 pounds.

During tournament action on Saturday, two Middletown wrestlers brought home medals — Foltmer from the Terra Nova Tournament in Pacifica and Jones from the King of the Mat tournament in Windsor. Foltmer, the No. 6 seed, finished second at Pacifica where her only loss came to the No. 1 seed in the championship match. To reach the finals, Foltmer won four straight matches and rallied from 7-1 deficits in two of them.

“I’m thrilled with how Kailei did,” Middletown coach Brian Hunt said. “For a six seed to walk away with a second-place medal is phenomenal. She had a great weekend.”

Jones, competing at 170 pounds in Windsor, reached the semifinals before dropping his first match. He went on to finish fourth in the championship bracket.

In other wrestling action Wednesday:

Kelseyville 42

Clear Lake 30

At Rohnert Park, the Kelseyville Knights opened their conference schedule with three wins — 42-30 over Clear Lake, 48-18 over Point Arena and 54-1 over Tech — at Technology High School.

Many of the matches between the four teams resulted in forfeits and double-forfeits because of small rosters.

“We have too many holes,” Kelseyville coach Rob Brown said of the Knights’ lineup, which was without wrestlers in five weight divisions.

In Kelseyville’s win over Clear Lake, four weight divisions were contested and each team won two. Kelseyville’s victories were at 145 pounds where Patrick Mick pinned Jacob Caldwell in the first round, and at 152 pounds where Natalio Rojas pinned Isaac Lewis in the second round.

Clear Lake’s wins were courtesy of Mariela Soto, a winner by first-round pin over Korbin Marlin, and Emily Psalmonds, a winner by first-round pin over Kylie Marlin.

There also were four contested matches in Kelseyville’s lopsided victory over Point Arena. The Knights picked up wins at 140 pounds where Mick won by first-round pin, and at 145 pounds where Rojas won by first-round pin.

Also for Kelseyville, Mike Beverlin lost by first-round pin at 106 pounds and Hayden Turner lost by third-round pin at 182 pounds.

Kelseyville won the only three contested weight classes against Tech. Winners were Tiko Landa by first-round pin at 132 pounds, Malcolm Moore by third-round pin at 145 pounds, and Turner by first-round pin at 182 pounds.

During the King of the Mat tournament on Saturday in Windsor, Kelseyville’s top finisher was Luis Garcia at 113 pounds. He won his first match but lost in the second round to fall into the gold bracket. From there, he won three straight matches.

Landa went 2-2 at 132 pounds, including a win by 8-6 decision over the No. 3 seed.
