WILLITS >> The Lower Lake Trojans were hoping to make a statement on Friday night in Willits against the defending North Central League I champions, but it was the Wolverines who jumped out in front early en route to a 44-33 victory.

Willits improved to 3-1 in the league standings while Lower Lake, a 60-59 loser to league leader Cloverdale on Tuesday, dropped to 2-2 and 7-8 overall. The Trojans were at a big disadvantage from the start with their leading scorer, Dustin Martin, out with the flu. Two other Trojans missed the game for the same reason.

A 16-1 first quarter put Willits in commoand.

“The energy from the kids who did play just wasn’t very good,” Lower Lake coach Tim Biasotti said. “I think it was a hangover from Tuesday’s game (the loss to Cloverdale).”

Ian Stiles led the Trojans with 10 points and Jerod Alexander had nine.

Lower Lake won the junior varsity game to improve to 4-0 in league play.
