LAKEPORT >> Pomolita Middle School of Ukiah edged the Terrace Middle School Vikings 43-39 in the eighth-grade boys’ championship game on Saturday at the Terrace Basketball Tournament in Lakeport.
Rodrigo Lupercio led the Vikings with 10 points while Blair Hayes added seven and Brady McGuire and Preston Jones had six each.
Earlier Saturday, the Vikings beat Fort Bragg 45-26 in the semifinals to reach the championship game opposite of Pomolita, which defeated Mountain Vista in the other semifinal. In Terrace’s win, Lupercio again led the way with 11 points while Seth Mix contributed eight and Hayes seven.
In first-round action on Friday, Terrace knocked off Point Arena 54-44 behind a balanced scoring attack that featured Lupercio with 14 points, Mix with 11, Jones with 10, Josh Damiata with eight and McGuire with seven.
Pomolita defeated Konocti 51-43 in its first-round game. Konocti went on to win the consolation championship with victories over Washington Middle School (Cloverdale) and Point Arena.
Eagle Peak (Redwood Valley) rounded out the tournament field.
Two Terrace players — Mix and McGuire — were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Vikings return to action Feb. 6-7 at the Chico Tournament.
